About Us 2018-01-23T07:25:54+00:00

..…to serve as the primary source of information for veterans and their families in Santa Clarita, in a safe, supportive and personal environment. The focus of our collaborative is to help secure jobs, housing, transportation, health and human services, education and legal services for our veterans and their defendants, whenever necessary.

Mission Statement:

The Santa Clarita Veteran Services Collaborative is composed of community and business leaders, non-profit organizations and individuals committed to providing a one-stop referral for resources, services, and support to veterans, active duty military personnel and their families.

  • Connecting veterans, active duty personnel, and their dependents to essential programs and services across the Santa Clarita Valley.
  • Locating resources to enrich the lives of veterans and active duty personnel, and making these resources readily available and easily accessible within our community.
  • Informing veterans, and their dependents, of education, employment, and other opportunities to assist themselves, and each other, as part of the transition to a productive and satisfying civilian life.
  • Collaborating to bring together best practices in serving veterans and active duty personnel, continuously strengthening and improving programming, access to services and coordination of care.
  • Influencing public policy and facilitating ongoing research to benefit our veterans and active duty personnel.

The Veteran Resources Center at College Of the Canyons (COC) in 2015-16 served over 1,000 veterans and their families. The Center does an excellent job of providing education services, however, there are many students that begin the process and don’t continue to successful completion. While some veterans may need additional military transition services to become successful, many of those services are not readily available in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The University Of Southern California (USC) Social Work School is the largest in the worlds, with some 3,500 students, and is recognized as the leader in the field of training social workers to graduate with a specialty in veteran needs and affairs.

After working for several months, to come to an agreement for the purpose of expanding USC’s Social Work skills, research, and services to our local Santa Clarita area, on June 29, 2016, a “Memo of Understanding” was formally signed between the two institutions. In September 2016, services from USC to our community began, with USC Graduate Social Worker students now on campus at COC to provide mental health counseling to veterans enrolled at COC.

In order to make this program community-wide the next step was to expand the effort into what has become the Santa Clarita Veteran Services Collaborative, which includes USC, COC, a number of local businessmen and women, individuals, and non-profit organization, all coming together to exchange ideas and offer whatever assistance is within their province, such as jobs, training, housing, medical attention, counseling & therapy, transportation, special services, education, and many additional specialties. The first meeting of the Collaborative was August 18, 2016, at College of The Canyons, where some 40+ entities gathered to agree on principles that will lead to a greater ability to assist veterans and their families. This group, which meets the third Friday of every month at 11:30 AM, has now expanded to over 60 entities, increasing every week,  hopefully with no end in sight.

Members of the collaborative are working full time to reach out to veterans, hoping to assure all concerned that this organization provides an honest and credible location for those in need to obtain whatever assistance they may require in their transition from military to civilian life.

Through the assistance of Radio Station KHTS-1220AM, The Magazine of Santa Clarita, and Signal Newspaper, all of which are members of the collaborative, we are constantly keeping the community apprised of our efforts to serve its citizenry, and we also ask that responsible members of the community join us to make additional services available top our local veterans. We are present at every public gathering where we might find veterans looking for help, as this collaborative is truly a “one stop shopping” experience. No need to hunt down the proper assistance that any veteran may need, we can do it all right here, by referring to the proper provider, so that the veteran comes away satisfied that he or she has benefitted.

A quick perusal of this website will provide an overview of the variety of assistance readily available for the asking.

Although continuing to provide the same credible and reliable service to all veterans in the local Santa Clarita valley, it is expected that the scope of those services will be expanded and that additional service providers will join with those present collaborative members.   We also anticipate widening our outreach program to bring in additional veterans in need of service and assistance.
